Our Newest Tradition

This past weekend was General Conference, and for the first time in a while I was really looking forward to the messages that we would hear. Since we've moved from CA we haven't been the best at watching the sessions. In Mississippi we didn't get the channel and I didn't want to go to the stake center to watch and since we've been here in Arizona I've allowed the boys and their craziness to distract me from it. This time was different. I wasn't looking forward to a weekend off, I was looking forward to being able to hear the messages that The Prophet and other church leaders had for me (and our family). I still have a few talks to catch up on but from what I've heard so far I'm inspired. I know changes need to be made a little bit at a time. We're finally at the point now that Noah reminds us that he needs to say prayer before dinner and bed. Another habit I hope to create for our children is scripture study. I'll be the first to admit, my own habits aren't the best. So I figure I can kill two birds with one stone. We're now reading scriptures each day as a family (starting last Saturday). We're only on 1 Nephi 1:14, but we will get through it together. We only read 3-4 verses a night. I read one out loud, Brian reads another, then Noah repeats the third, and if Logan's attention is there long enough he repeats the final verse of the night. I know that it's easy to forget about something like this, but we do it immediately after dinner and I clean up later. I would rather have a sink full of dishes if it means we get to share something as important as the gospel with our children. Each month I will post how far we've made it, and we'll see how long it takes to finish. :)
